The App says Server Error / Loading issues

Modified on Wed, 3 Jul at 10:41 AM

Sometimes, you may open the app from the Admin and it fails to load. Typical issues are:

  • Server Error (Red notification box)
  • Cookie Notice to enable cookies
  • Constant refreshing then redirect to Admin/Apps

For some of Apps such as SellUp and Delivery Timer, we embed these into the Shopify Admin. This means our apps load inside your Shopify store’s admin.

Browsers are cracking down on iframes that load inside webpages which don’t originate from the same url. As a result, the above issues are common.

To make your experience smoother when using Shopify and embedded apps such as SellUp, Delivery Timer and other 3rd party Apps, you can make a quick settings change to your browser.

For Merchants using Chrome

If you are using a recent version of Chrome and are experiencing similar issues to the above mentioned, you can disable “Same-site” enforcement from your Chrome browser settings. To do so, follow these quick steps:

  1. Enter the following into your browser location bar and select “Disabled” in the drop-down.
    chrome://flags/#same-site-by-default-cookies

  2. Select the “Relaunch” button.

  3. Enter the following into your browser location bar and select “Disabled” in the drop-down.
    chrome://flags/#cookies-without-same-site-must-be-secure

  4. Select the “Relaunch” button.

Your changes will take effect after the relaunch of Google Chrome. This guide is courtesy of Siteimprove.

For Merchants using Safari

This is know as “Cross-site tracking” for Mac users and Safari users. To increase compatibility and reduce the issues experienced above, you need to disable “Prevent Cross-site tracking” in Safari preferences. To do so, follow these quick steps:

  1. In the Safari app  on your Mac, choose Safari > Preferences, then click Privacy.
  2. Select “Prevent cross-site tracking”.Unless you visit and interact with the third-party content provider as a first-party website, their cookies and website data are deleted.
